Fox Valley Astronomical Society
Our club consists of Astronomy enthusiasts with varying skill sets ranging from novice to expert. Interests range from Binocular viewing and visual observing to Astrophotography. The club has a diverse base of members from the Fox Valley area including Batavia, Elburn, Geneva, St. Charles and the surrounding communities. The night sky is filled with many treasures including our planets, star clusters, nebulas, and numerous constellations. There has never been a better time to explore the delectable sites of our universe. Why not get started today by attending one of our club meetings or a public star party?
What is a Public Star Party?
Star Parties are free sponsored event by our Astronomy Club where we educate and introduce the Public to the Night Sky. We start by providing our guests with an optional presentation on an astronomy topic. The presentation usually lasts for about 30 minutes, then we go outside to observe the night sky (weather permitting).
Our club members are eager to set-up their telescopes in the parking lot at Peck Farm Park. We have telescopes of all different types and brands. We point our scopes at prominent celestial objects such as the Moon, planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus, Star Clusters such as Pleiades, constellations such as Orion, Taurus, Gemini and others depending on viewing conditions and the time of year.
If you have never seen any of these objects through the eyepiece of the telescope or if you have already been doing some observing on your own, a star party is a great way to see some of these objects, learn more about the universe, and ask any questions. It is a great way to spend some time with friends and family on a Saturday night, so why not stop by and visit us during at one of our upcoming events?
