Total Eclipse of the Moon Viewing

Public Star Party
January 20, 2019 07:00 PM - January 21, 2019 01:00 AM

The night of Jan 20-21 there will be total eclipse of the moon visible high overhead from Chicagoland. The first, partial, phase begins at 8:36PM and lasts until 9:33. The darker phases start at 9:33, reaching totality at 10:41 and lasting until 11:43 PM. This period will be the best for viewing. After that the moon will brighten, with the darker phases ending at 12:50. The eclipse will finish at 1:48AM. You do not need to spend the entire night outdoors in January weather to enjoy this event. The best time for viewing is between 10:41 and 11:43 and we will have the Orientation Barn (heated!) available for comfort and talk. We will be observing this event from the patio area adjacent to the Barn. Come join us for this rare treat. Weather, of course, permitting.
