The month of August is a notable one in the history of astronomy. For example, Galileo first pointed his telescope towards the heavens in August of 1609. In the same year and month Kepler published his famous book on the orbit of Mars and the laws governing the other planets.  Between the observations of Galileo (published in 1610) and the mathematical deductions of Kepler (based on the observations of Tycho Brahe) the helio-centric nature of the solar system was firmly established. If the weather permits, we will observe Jupiter and his moons just as Galileo did after the lecture. Saturn, double stars, and clusters will also be shown through the telescopes of FVAS members.
